Online registration has opened for the 2018 Suzhou Taihu Marathon, which will be held on Nov 18, according to a press conference held by its organizing committee on Aug 8.
The event includes a full marathon, a half marathon and a mini marathon covering the distances of 42.195 kilometers, 21.0975 km and 5 km respectively.
The total number of contestants this year will be increased to 30,000, 5,000 runners more than last year, of which 8,000 spots are allocated for the full marathon, 12,000 for the half marathon and 10,000 for the mini marathon.
Starting from the district's Shishan Road, the race course for the full marathon is expected to pass by Baimajian Longchi Scenic Spot, the district's ecological "green lung", Dayangshan National Forest Park boasting the highest forest density in China, and Suzhou Science and Technology City and then run along the Taihu Lake, one of the country's largest freshwater lakes and end in Suzhou New District Cultural and Sports Center.
In order to attract more runners, the committee will give out a total of 388,000 yuan ($56,764) in prize money this year.
Runners can sign up for the event by logging onto the official website www.runsuzhou.com.
The committee has linked up with the EMLYON Business School, a leading business school in France, to call for the attendance of celebrities by the school's renowned alumni.
The International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) will dispatch its officials to oversee preparations for the event in November, according to the committee.
